The last year has been hard,
I won’t pretend otherwise,
My last words were over a phone,
And my last picture is old.
***
You didn’t get to live long,
There are many things you taught me,
Like how to remain strong,
When life treats you wrong.
***
But lately I’ve been thinking,
And everything reminds me of you,
So many unasked questions,
And answers that will never be.
***
Life has failed to break me yet,
But taking you was a decent attempt,
I still can’t find the perfect way,
To say Goodbye Dad.

This hit me hard, man. The rawness of it makes it even more painful.

It’s nearly two years since he past and I still catch myself expecting my weekly call… My poetry is a way for me to let that emotion out. 🙂

Heartfelt and well expressed. Emotions/difficulty often bring out the best creativity, and this is one shining example!

I have found over my time writing that emotion tends to be my best trigger. The mixed relationship with my dad meant there was a lot of mixed emotions when he passed.
