In the Absence of Your Voice: Poem by the Pesky Poet

I scrolled my phone today,
And saw your name,
And then I saw the date,
Of when we last spoke,
And in came the pain,
As I strain to hear your voice.

The first voice that comes,
Is always one of anger,
Yelling my name,
From downstairs,
While you were drunk,
Before I break past,
To hear the happy laugh,
And picture the smile,
And the times that we had.

No-one so young,
Should say goodbye dad,
You were the victim,
Of the life you had,
A life unlived,
But not unloved,
I say again,
Goodbye dad.

There are questions,
Left unanswered,
Like any phone call,
If I tried today
There are things,
I want to tell you,
Stupid things,
Like how was my day.

Scroll your phone,
Talk to them today,
Because there will come a time,
When they won’t answer,
And all you will wish,
Is to hear their voice,
Even if that’s your name in anger.
