Darkness

There is a darkness around me,
One that is not ready to fade,
It envelopes me,
And makes me feel life is not worth it.
***
Life has been tough,
And it seems to get tougher every day.
I’ve lost loved ones,
And find it hard to keep smiling.
***
It is described as a darkness,
Because it is hard to see,
More than a day ahead at a time,
And the darker the less you can see.
***
But I won’t let the darkness win,
I’ll use my other senses,
To get where I’m going,
To where it is light again.

God Gave You To Us

God gave you to us,
As a source of love,
To teach us his wisdom,
And teach us how to live.
***
He left you here,
As long as he could,
Before he needed you,
Back with him.

Another Petal Falls

A rosebush is like a family.
Each home is a rose.
The petals are the people.
***
Just as people pass.
The petals fall.
Eventually the rose is bare.
***
A home may close.
The flower may wither.
But the rosebush keeps growing.
***
Each petal is remembered.
Every rose is not forgot.
The rosebush is not lost.
***
So remember each petal.
And don’t forget each rose.
Watch as the rosebush grows.

You’ve Gone Home

The show is done,
The curtain has fallen,
You’ve taken you bow,
And said your goodbye.
***
The show is over,
No encore to give,
You’ve said you piece,
And left us all to live.
***
It still hasn’t sunk in,
No repeats like on TV,
I won’t see you again,
Not until my end.
***
We’re left with our memories,
With the lifetime of advice,
With the wisdom of your world,
With the imprint of your life.

God Gave You Wings

God too you too soon,
Some might say,
You were here all my life,
And one day you were taken away.
***
But I smile because,
Although God took you home,
I know when he greeted,
He gave you wings to fly.
***
You were my hero,
A man with the knowledge,
The source of my wisdom,
Someone I could turn to.
***
Now when I hear the gulls,
Or see the west coast sky,
I’ll know you are there,
Soaring amongst the clouds.
***
God gave you to the earth,
His gift to everyone in your life,
And each day from now,
I will be thankful to him and to you.
***
I know I have to say goodbye,
But this isn’t the end,
It was just your time,
And I will see you again.

Funeral

Funerals are often said,
To be when people are laid to rest.
An ending to the person’s life,
But that doesn’t feel right.
***
I have found a funeral to be,
Something more akin to a sea.
A long outstretched emptiness before you,
Another journey to be got through.
***
But when all is said and done,
And the day has come and gone.
It isn’t the end of the person’s life,
Just the time to say goodbye.
***
In the weeks and months after,
The person memories linger onwards.
They are not forgotten or no more,
They stay with us for evermore.

When They’re Gone, They’re Gone

As phrases go,
Everyone knows,
And it’s obvious,
When they are gone,
They are gone.
***
But the phrase,
Has no meaning,
Until it happens.
***
I thought I knew,
It’s obvious to me,
Isn’t obvious to you,
I won’t see them again.
***
But it’s more final,
Thank I could have known,
More of an end,
Than your mind can show.
***
When they’re gone,
They aren’t here,
And they never,
Will be again.

Pass The Baton

It seems so long now,
But just like yesterday,
You were still here,
And at just a phones reach.
***
Now , years later,
You are years away,
Yet your life is in me,
And passes in seconds.
***
You once brought me up,
Made me more like me,
And now you’ve passed,
And passed the baton on to me.
***
I now live in your memory,
Remember the good times,
Think of your flaws,
And I would take them for a few more times.
***
But here I sit,
Taking over from you,
Learning to live,
And not to forget to laugh.
***
You may no longer be,
In reach of me,
But you live within my heart,
As just another part.

Goodbye, Farewell, So Long.

Each day I go out,
I forget your aren’t here,
When I walk to work,
You are just there,
You must be at home,
Where else would you be,
I’m not convincing myself,
It’s just the way it has been,
Then I remember,
And I twinge a little inside,
You aren’t at home,
And haven’t “just popped out,
For a while,”
No,
You are gone,
And can never be seen,
No quick visit,
Or just a cup of tea,
I have to remind myself,
Before I try to call,
You are not here,
No, not at all,
So before I forget,
And dream you are home,
let me say goodbye,
farewell and so long.

For A Fallen Petal

A person is like a petal,
Each one adds to the flower,
As a person adds to a family,
Eventually a petal falls.
***
Over time that gap will fill,
Although now time stands still,
And for now the gap is obvious,
But the gap is there for all of us.
***
There is a time for every petal,
As there is a time for all of us,
And when our petal falls,
We will land on God’s grass.

Today I Thought Of You

I thought of you today,
That is nothing new,
But I cannot tell you.
***
You were always there,
And I never knew,
How much I’d miss you.
***
So in the words you loved,
Life’s a piece of shit,
When you look at it.
***
Without you here,
I’ll live by your ways,
And enjoy my life.

What I Would Give

You could recite python,
Without missing a beat,
Make me smile,
From cheek to cheek,
Put me in stitches,
For over a week,
And say you love me,
As big as the street,
Now what I would give,
To hear goodnight one last time.

You could make eggs,
With a runny yoke,
Find the right time,
To tell the perfect joke,
Tried to fix things,
Or just give them a poke,
And say I love you,
As big as you know,
Now what I would give,
To say goodnight one last time.
