We were in love,
You met my family,
I thought we’d love,
No matter what,
Remember the nights,
The laughs, the hugs,
What we left between the sheets,
And the weekends together.
Do you remember,
That fateful night,
You asked me to call you,
Just so you could break up with me.
Do you know what it feels like,
For your world to disappear,
And for the one you love,
To fade to dreams.
Well I’ve found true love now,
And it is not with you,
You had your chance,
No one breaks my heart more than once.

It would bring me joy to know that the subject of this poem did eventually find happiness… He deserved it.
