7 Stages of Grief – Poem by the Pesky Poet

It cannot be,
It can't be true,
You were here yesterday,
I was with you,
This can't be happening,
Not here and now,
You can't be gone,
No way, no how.
***
I won't believe it,
It is not true,
You are still here,
Aren't you,
This is a joke,
A horrid jest,
One I'll wake up from,
And you won't be gone.
***
It's all my fault,
That I am here,
And you are not,
What more could I have done,
I didn't visit enough,
I never told you I cared,
You would be here,
If I helped you.
***
I feel so down without you,
I never got to say goodbye,
It is so unfair,
That you are gone,
And I'm still here,
Each time I see your picture,
I relive the pain.
***
Day by day,
The sting weakens,
But it never leaves,
And day by day,
My memories turn to fondness,
And away from grief,
Until I can remember you,
Without a sore heart.
***
No matter the shock,
Or the denial I'm in,
Regardless of guilt,
Or anger at the world,
Even the depths of depression,
I have to learn to live without you,
So I live without you,
But carry you with me.
