Now That You’re Gone – Poem by the Pesky Poet

It's only when the silence creeps in,
That I hear you clearly in my mind.
A voice of silence, made clear by silence,
I remember every conversation with you.
***
You've been gone but still are here,
Deep in my mind, behind the tears,
I hear you more now you are gone,
Than I think I listened before the end.
***
The world is cold, and grows colder,
Without your wise words of old,
Or your smile that did warm the cold,
A warming that will be no more.
***
The world feels broken and strange,
Not hearing your laugh at the door,
You had more of an effect on me,
Than I think, either of us could know.
