Another Year, Another Failure – Poem by the Pesky Poet

It is becoming quite clear,
That poetry competitions are not inclusive,
Just look at the winners long list,
And you’ll see what I mean.
***
Year in Year it’s the same,
Mostly white, heteronormative men,
Win again and again.
***
 Not to mention disability,
Which is vastly under represented,
Dyslexia is shunned and discouraged,
By snobbery from poetry judges.
***
No this poem isn’t written to win,
It’s written to send a message,
To those who make the decisions.
***
As a gay dyslexic poet,
It doesn’t fill you with confidence,
When you see the long lists at competitions,
And there is no-one like you.
***
Going on five years,
It has been the same,
It’s enough to make some,
Leave this game.
