It is becoming quite clear, That poetry competitions are not inclusive, Just look at the winners long list, And you’ll see what I mean. *** Year in Year it’s the same, Mostly white, heteronormative men, Win again and again. *** Not to mention disability, Which is vastly under represented, Dyslexia is shunned and discouraged, By snobbery from poetry judges. *** No this poem isn’t written to win, It’s written to send a message, To those who make the decisions. *** As a gay dyslexic poet, It doesn’t fill you with confidence, When you see the long lists at competitions, And there is no-one like you. *** Going on five years, It has been the same, It’s enough to make some, Leave this game.
