The Hearth of Life – Poem by the Pesky Poet

Come stand with me awhile,
Next to this open hearth,
Take in the warmth a moment,
Let me speak from the heart.
***
This life is way to short,
To have a broken heart,
But it is all too long,
For one as hard as a hearth.
***
Watch that flame a second,
It's here and now it's gone,
It made light in it's time,
Leaving only memories to go on.
***
As we spend this minute,
Think how you will go on,
Because some time in the future,
Your light will also be gone.
***
Watch the fire for a bit,
As a whole it's still there,
Although the flame lasted a jiff,
The fire is still a flair.
***
While life seems like a mo,
Life to share your flair,
Just remember when you're gone,
Everyone will be right there.
