The Metronome Is Not A Prison – Poem by the Pesky Poet

The metronome is a prison,
There to force structure,
There to force a norm.
***
The metronome is a prison,
Not to be disregarded,
And sanctified by some.
***
The metronome should not be a prison,
More a guide to the feeling,
Of the musicians heart to hands.
***
The metronome is a suggestion,
Of where the beat may go,
But it isn't a prison,
To those in the know.
