Hear that knocking at the door,
You recognize it from long before,
It that long lost family member,
Who only shows at Christmas.
***
Who’s that now at the door,
A knocking unlike before,
Could it be the next door friend,
Spreading cheer at Christmas.
***
There sounds a sharp coughing,
Preluding another knocking,
Who’s that at the door,
Another guest for Christmas.
***
Now with all and sundry here,
You can drink Christmas cheer,
And sing in the bells,
For here’s to another Christmas.
