Unceremoniously chopped, From it's rooted land, To be placed, In your family home, Becoming part of the family, For one month only. *** To be decorated, And celebrated, All dressed up, With tinsel, And baubles. *** The pile of gifts, Shrink and Grow, As you give and take, And the names change, From theirs to yours, Until it's the day. *** Day by day, It becomes an eyesore, The branches look worn, The needles go brown, It ends up outside, Face down. *** It's served it's purpose, As a festive pillar, A symbol of joy, Covered in light, In the bleak midwinter, And the dark nights.
