We Once Said I Love You

You once said I love you without force,
Without pain, without remorse,
What we had was special,
But the bitterness came,
First it was just arguing,
Behind locked doors, then in public.
***
I once said I love you without wincing,
Without a sigh, without rolling my eyes,
What we had felt right,
But the cruelty came,
And we drifted apart,
Lived separately, Then moved apart.
***
We once said I love you without spite,
Without sarcasm, Without venom,
What we had worked,
But what finally came,
And finally ended it,
Was sharp words, and harsher jibes.

The 1967 Breakthrough

Am I dreaming,
Am I alone,
Could this be,
Could we have won,
Love is allowed,
Love is not wrong,
Society accepts us,
Society moves on,
There is still more to do,
There are those who protest,
Society will adapt,
Society has already,
Love has been accepted,
Love has no limits,
Could tomorrow be better,
Could we love free,
I am not alone,
I am not dreaming.

Time, Just Stand Still

I am the youngest I will ever be,
Yet the oldest I have ever seemed,
Stop the clock now,
And let time stand still.
***
For he is the reason,
Life is never dull,
But sometimes I need,
The clock to stop,
And time to leave me be.
***
But he marches on,
Tick by tock,
And tock by tick,
Endlessly marching to the metronome.
***
So cherish the time,
Because tomorrow as with now,
You will be the youngest you ever were,
But the oldest you have ever been.

Drawn To You

There you sit,
Across the platform from me,
It may as well be,
A world away.
***
You don’t notice me,
You never have,
Our lives cross every day,
But never our hearts.
***
Have you ever seen me,
Looking at you,
Hoping you,
Were looking at me too?
***
I would make a move,
If I only knew,
Who you were,
Or why I was drawn to you.

Love is Like a Song

Like music from an orchestra,
Like strings that are plucked,
Love vibrates around us,
Love is in all of us.
***
In a whisper,
Or in a shout,
Love lives within us,
We just need to let it out.
***
Feel it in you,
Feel it fill you up,
Don’t hide from love,
And don’t hold it back.

Soaring Like A Sunlit Dream

I feel you there,
Hidden from view,
You lift me up,
When I am blue,
You are with me,
Every night,
You whisper softly,
You give me flight,
I dream I’ll see you,
But I wake not to,
The thought of you,
Fills me with warmth,
You send me soaring,
Like a sunlit dream.

Illegal Love Of 1947

I sit in my cell,
Thinking about my sin,
Wondering what I have done,
Thinking about him,
I sit on my own.
***
I stand by the window,
Thinking what is love really,
Wondering what could have been done,
Thinking what is reality,
I stand by myself.
***
I love a man,
Thinking what is wrong,
Wondering what society has done,
Thinking why love is gone,
I love on my own.

A Summers Day

Roses and sunshine,
Smile out in the garden,
Tea and coffee,
Play out on the table,
Kids fish by the stream,
Adults talk about the day.
***
Summer has come ,
It shows in the garden,
Drinks are available,
Sat out on the table,
Fish hide in the stream,
This never ending summers day.
***
Night seems distant,
Miles from the garden,
The hot patio,
Sleeps under the table,
Cold is the water in the stream,
Warm is the wind of the day.

Hope

Hope,
Is not just a useless word,
It has endless meaning,
Freedom,
Is not an actless sentiment,
It keeps us breathing.
***
We all live in hope,
To live in freedom,
When freedom is taken for granted,
Hope is ignored,
And one by one,
People become,
Mindless hordes,
Living for tomorrow,
Saving for today,
Having nothing to their name.
***
Hope
Is not just a useless word,
It gives the world meaning,
Love,
Is a binding force,
That keeps hearts beating.
***
We all live in hope,
To find true love,
Which shows our blindness,
Love not just your partner,
With true love,
Love your neighbour,
Your father,
Your fellow humans,
With the same love,
And the world will be,
As it should.
